Happy 80th birthday West Van Tennis Club
The West Vancouver Tennis Club celebrated its 80th birthday on March 6 with several fun tournaments and lots of food and drink.

Leyla Morzana again was the winner of the Lady's Open and Jason Cave, last year's winner of the Men's Open, lost his title this time to Paul Shellard. Lance Stiles won the Men's 55 and Mamood Gouneili got the Grand Marnier for the Men's Open Consolation!

Valerie McPolin, a member since 1945, and Ernie Kershaw, the team tennis coach for West Van High in the 1950s - see bottom-left photo - had a lot to say about the club. In 1925 and for several decades thereafter, the clubhouse was a small wooden hut. In the sixties a fifth court was added and a uniform dress code of summer whites adopted. In 1975 a winter-season bubble was erected, and in 1983 the new clubhouse was built.

The club has developed a unique personality over its 80 years and has become an important contributor to the North Shore community.
