the Challenger event, in the second tier of the ATP Tour.
Ten days of excitement ended at Hollyburn Country
Club with a flourish. The Vancouver Open was a wonderful opportunity for families and local
fans to watch some great professional tennis matches.
First seed Yen-Hsun (TPE), second photo, 138th in the world, lost in the semi-finals to
Sela 6-2, 6-4.
Scotland's Andy Murray, the fourth seed, third photo, failed to qualify for the
semi-finals after a heartbreaking loss to Baccanello in a third-set tiebreak.
Frank Dancevic, fifth photo, Canada's top player, beat Philip Bester, one of the
world's top junior players, in the opening ceremonies
match. Dancevic reached the quarter-finals where he fell to Sela in three sets.
In the Men's Doubles final, top seed Ashley Fisher of Australia and
Phillips Tripp of the US defeated American Huntley Montgomery and
Rajee Ram 7-6, 1-6, 6-3.
In the Women's Open, American Ansley Cargill beat
Canadian Melanie Gloria, 6-4, 6-2.
The talented 18-year-old Gloria was the only Canadian to reach any of the finals.
In Women's Doubles, Sarah Borwell from Great Britain and American Sarah Riske defeated
German Antonia Matic and American Lauren Barnikow 6-4, 3-6, 7-6.
